Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
National Ignition Facility (NIF) Tour
Wednesday, August 11, 2010
In the afternoon of Wednesday, August 11th, we have arranged a guided
walking tour of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory (LLNL). NIF is is the world's largest, and highest energy,
laser facility. This Summer NIF will begin experiments that will focus
192 high-power laser beams on a small target filled with hydrogen fuel. The
goal is to fuse the hydrogen nuclei, and produce net energy gain, which is
a first step towards Laser Induced Fusion Energy (LIFE).
There is no additional cost associated with the tour. However, the Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory/National Ignition Facility is a DOE/NNSA national
laboratory and therefore your personal identification information is required
to obtain a badge for the tour. If you would like to go on the tour you must
also register on the LLNL website at:
https://www.regonline.com/nuclear_structure_2010
The LLNL/NIF registration deadline for foreign nationals is JUNE 1st, 2010.
The LLNL/NIF registration deadline for U.S. citizens is JULY 1st, 2010.
Please be aware that if you miss these deadlines there will be no possibility of coming on the tour.
