Second Annual Meeting of the US LHC Users Organization
25-26 September 2009

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will host the Annual US LHC Users Meeting Friday September 25 to September 26.

The meeting sessions on Saturday will include status reports from the LHC accelerator and experiments, a review of the visit to the agencies and Congress last Spring, and views from Washington. A focal point will be a discussion session of the issues affecting US LHC users both at their home institutions and overseas, complemented by a report on recent discussion of these and similar issues in the Advisory Committee of CERN Users (ACCU). A highlight of the meeting will be a poster competition where young physicists throughout the US LHC community will present and discuss their work, which will also be evaluated by a panel of judges, with the winners being invited to join the visit to Washington in the Spring of 2010.

There will be a welcome reception and Executive Committee meeting Friday evening, followed by the main meeting on Saturday.

Meeting Locations

The Friday, Sept. 25 session will be held in Building 67, room 1113. The Saturday, Sept. 26 session will be held in the Building 66 Auditorium.

Purpose and Structure of USLUO

The US LHC Users Organization (USLUO) is composed of scientists and engineers who carry out research and development using the Large Hadron Collider experiments and accelerator systems. These include people based at CERN and those working mainly from their home institutions. The purpose of USLUO is to provide a forum for discussions of the US participation in the LHC research program, with a focus on how best to enhance scientific participation in the discoveries expected from this research. USLUO aims to help the US LHC community work effectively with their colleagues at CERN while in the US, and to adapt to work at CERN and to living in the environs of the CERN laboratory. USLUO also provides communication channels between scientists working on LHC experiments, the US agencies supporting this research and the US Congress.
