Cancer, Complexity and the Microenvironment:

A Scientific Symposium and Celebration in Honor of Mina Bissell
Saturday, May 8, 2010, Berkeley, CA

This very special event will honor Mina Bissell, Ph.D., Distinguished Scientist, our great mentor, colleague and friend, and her seminal contributions to the field of tumor biology,
her distinguished service and her 70th birthday.

For more than a quarter century Mina Bissell’s research has generated new ideas and compelling experimental evidence that cancer is more than a disease of the cell, it is a disease of the organ. Mina pioneered studies which have served to define the critical role of the microenvironment in tumor biology. Her innovative work has changed the paradigm by which scientists approach the study of tumor biology.  She has inspired an entire generation of scientists who continue to demonstrate the fundamental role of the microenvironment in normal function and tumor progression.
