A Scientific Symposium and Celebration in Honor of Ken Downing:
Friday, February 14, 2014, Berkeley, CA

This all-day symposium highlights Ken Downing's remarkable contributions to
the growing field of cryo-electron microscopy and features investigators
who have worked together with Ken over the years or received direct training from him.

Scientific Symposium (registration required)

The symposium will be held on Friday, February 14, 2014, 10 AM – 5 PM (check-in at 9:30 AM), at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Building 66 Auditorium in Berkeley, CA.

Parking Space & Permits

Parking at LBNL is limited. Attendees are strongly encouraged to carpool or to use the LBNL shuttles whenever possible. Alternatively, you may take a taxi. There may not be parking available in close proximity. Please be prepared to walk a few minutes to Building 66 over hilly terrain.

Parking at LBNL is by permit only. Signs in each parking lot designate the types of permit required for that area. Cars parked in no-parking areas or reserved spaces without appropriate permits may be cited or towed. A one-day permit will be issued to symposium registrants when entering the LBNL site. Please allow time for this procedure.

Access to LBNL & Your Parking Permit

LBNL site-access has been arranged for symposium registrants. If you arrive by car, please be prepared to show your valid photo I.D. and provide citizenship information to the security guard upon entering the LBNL site. Inform the guard you are a registrant of the Symposium in Honor of Ken Downing. He/she will issue a one-day parking permit. Please allow time for this procedure.

LBNL Shuttles

Please refer to the website here for shuttle information, route(s) and time schedules.

Important notes when taking the LBNL shuttle:

-    If you have a LBNL or UCB ID badge, please show it to the driver.
-    Non-LBNL/UCB visitors who have indicated via the symposium registration site you plan to ride the shuttle receive a shuttle pass via email by February 11; alternatively, email your request for a shuttle pass (print-out of pass required) to FGuagliardo@lbl.gov. Please show the shuttle pass to the driver and be prepared to show your photo ID.
-    There are two routes you can take, both with a stop in front of Building 66 where the Symposium takes place:
Orange line: arrives/departs every 15 minutes (before 9:35 a.m.: every 10 minutes) and takes 15 minutes from BART to Bldg. 66.
Blue line: arrives/departs every 12 minutes and takes 25 to 30 minutes from BART to Bldg. 66.

-    Please take ample time to get to your destination. The program starts at 10 a.m.; doors open at 9:30 a.m.
