Young Science Wiz
Takes After Parents

Diana Aragon

When IEEE Spectrum and MAKE magazine put out a call for clever do-it-yourself electronics projects, they didn’t expect that one of the 30 contestants would be 11-year-old Diana Aragon. She designed and built a magnetic stirrer that impressed the judges so much she received an honorable mention. She's been raised in a tech-savvy home. Her father works on wireless networking software at Trapeze Networks in Pleasanton, and her mother, Cecilia Aragon, is a scientist with Berkeley Lab’s Computational Research Division. Full story.

Gas Line Repairs Shut
'Z' Lot Through Friday

Parking Lot "Z" above the cafeteria will remain closed through Friday, Aug. 3, to accommodate repairs to an underground gas line. As a precaution, there is no smoking on the deck outside of Perseverance Hall or on the stairs leading to the back of the cafeteria. Signs are posted that remind employees of this change. There will be no interruption of natural gas service during repairs, and no health or safety danger to employees at the Lab. For questions, contact Mike Dong.
