SHARES 2005

Lawrence Hall of Science
Helps Kids Across U.S.

The Lawrence Hall of Science is UC Berkeley's public science center, fostering understanding and enjoyment of science and mathematics for audiences of all ages. The center develops dozens of exhibitions, 12 published curricula used by more than 20 percent of the nation's K-12 students, and hundreds of programs for students and teachers. Berkeley Lab employees can donate to the center, and many more, through the SHARES campaign, now through Nov. 18. To learn more about SHARES, go here. To make online contributions, go here. Send any questions to the SHARES answer line.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

In An Emergency:
1-800-445-5830

The number above is printed on the back of all employee badges. It is the emergency status number. If something happens in or near the laboratory that might affect access or work conditions, Berkeley Lab's Emergency Services Office will activate an audio message at that number to inform employees about what they should do.

We're Listening: TABL Can Share Your News With Lab

The editors of Today at Berkeley Lab can help departments and individuals spread important news about conferences, research, awards, and other activities with others at the Lab. Know an interesting person who works here? Send along that information as well so we can share their story with others. Story ideas can be e-mailed here.

WORLD OF SCIENCE

Every Picture Tells
A Science Story

Illustration of neuron in brain
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and in few realms is that more true than science. The successful illustration of research concepts goes a long way in helping others understand what it's all about. Which is why the National Science Foundation each year sponsors a "Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge," which honors the top photographs, illustrations, graphics, and media that represent research from institutions around the world. Go here to see a list of this year's winners.
