SAFETY NOTE

Emergency Evacuation
Drill Tomorrow Morning

The Lab will conduct a site-wide emergency evacuation exercise tomorrow morning. The event will be initiated with the announcement of a simulated earthquake over the public address system, followed by a “drop, cover, and hold-on” drill, then a request to evacuate all buildings. Employees who need assistance with evacuating should contact their building manager. The time required to conduct the exercise should not exceed 15 minutes. The exercise is coordinated by the Environment, Health and Safety Division.

On Science, Religion

Bailey

Berkeley Lab computational researcher David Bailey is quoted in a recent Salt Lake Tribune article that explores how Mormons view science, creationism and evolution. "If creationism is an issue in Mormondom, it tends to be in the fundamentalist strain, not the scientifically educated part of the Mormon world," said Bailey, a computer expert at Berkeley Lab who wrote a 2003 essay on "Mormonism and the New Creationism."
