Open House: Cafeteria Lot Closed Friday; H1 Lot Closing at 2 p.m. That Day
To facilitate set-up for the Lab’s Open House this Saturday, the K1 (cafeteria) lot will be closed all of Friday. The bus stop will be moved to the stop sign on the east side of Lawrence Road, near the entrance of the Guest House. The H1 (Building 50) lot will close at 2 p.m. that day as well. Lab employees attending the event or working during Open House must enter the Lab via Blackberry Gate (Strawberry Gate will be closed) and park in any lot except G1, G2, H1, H2, J, K1, K2, N2, Y and Z. Roadways near these lots will also be blocked.
EH&S: Staying Safe in Mountain Lion Country
A deer fawn found dead at the Lab last weekend may have been killed by a mountain lion or other predator. There also have been recent sightings of what may be a pair of lion cubs. To avoid an interaction with a mountain lion, avoid hiking or jogging in the wildnerness alone or at dawn, dusk or night. If you encounter a lion, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger. If attacked, fight back. Go here for more safety information from the California Department of Fish and Game.
Runaround: Steve Blair Wins T-Shirt Design Contest
Congratulations to Steve Blair of Facilities, the winner of this year's Runaround t-shirt design contest for his "Running Lean & Green" concept. "The Lab is all about running efficiently (lean) and low carbon (green),” says Blair. “Our yearly use of goats for vegetation management accomplishes both of these goals in a very old-fashion and low-tech way." All Runaround participants and volunteers will receive a free t-shirt on the day of the event (Friday, Oct. 8).
Facilities: Lab Tests Assisted Parking Program in the Pit Lot
To help ease parking congestion at the Lab, a vendor is providing assisted parking in the D lot (the Pit), on a trial basis. When all the stalls in the lot are full, an attendant will direct staff to stack park their cars. After a walk-around inspection and login of contact information, the attendant will take your keys and give you a claim ticket, which is used to retrieve keys upon departure. The attendant will be onsite until 6 p.m. Employees working later must pick up their keys by 6 p.m. More>
