Instructions for Preparing the 2005 NSD Annual Report

The Nuclear Science Division Annual Report will be available on the Web. It will be produced from electronically submitted PDF files. The report will cover the period from January 1st, 2005 through December 31st, 2005. NSD Annual Reports are posted at the division web site. A CD-rom was made of last year's report, and is available from the division office.

Time due:

July 31, 2006 (Monday).

Submission – please only submit PDF:

Authors should submit a single-page PDF file as an E-mail attachment to djacobs@lbl.gov. In the body of the email, please include:

  1. the title;
  2. the complete author/affiliation list in text format;
  3. the relative order of appearance if contributions are related to each other.

Your contributions will appear shortly afterwards in a temporary web page (link address to be announced) for your inspection. The authors/groups are encouraged to discuss and carbon copy their contributions to one of the following:

              88-Inch Cyclotron Operations  - Claude Lyneis (CMLyneis@lbl.gov)
              Low Energy Program - Volker Koch (VKoch@lbl.gov)
              Relativistic Nuclear Collisions - Hans Georg Ritter (HGRitter@lbl.gov)
              Institute for Nuclear and Particle Astrophysics - Bob Stokstad (RGStokstad@lbl.gov)
              Nuclear Data Evaluation: Isotopes Project - Coral Baglin (CMBaglin@lbl.gov)
              Theory Program - Xin-Nian Wang (XNWang@lbl.gov)

Please note: authors, group leaders, and program heads are responsible for the contents of the contributions.

Style and Templates:

There have been no changes to the templates that were used last year. Contributions can be written using either LaTeX or MSWORD formats (see below). MSWORD is preferred.

The LaTeX template is based on the APS standard REVTEX4 (using LaTeX2e) files for generating Physical Review Letter compuscripts. Most people should be familiar with this procedure. If you do not have REVTEX4 you will need to download the files from the APS website.

The template will help standardize your fonts and font sizes. However, SPACINGS (SUCH AS MARGINS AND FIGURE PLACEMENT) WILL CHANGE WITH CHOICE OF PLATFORM (UNIX, LINUX etc). The LaTeX template indicates where such alterations can be made.

The top and bottom margins are both 1". Left and right margins should be 3/4 of an inch. Gap between title and authors should be 1/8 of an inch. Gap between authors and affiliations should be 1/8 of an inch. Gap between affiliations and text should be 1/4 inch. Gap between columns should be 1/4 inch.

To see how the LaTeX template works you will need these files:

  1. nsd_template.tex
  2. nsd_template_refs.bib
  3. nsd_template_fig.ps

Use the following commands (ONLY USE PSLATEX - other commands such as latex or pdflatex will make the layout of your contribution wrong.):

  1. pslatex nsd_template.tex (creates .aux file)
  2. bibtex nsd_template (creates .bbl file)
  3. pslatex nsd_template.tex (probably need to do this twice to get cross-referencing correct; creates .dvi file)
  4. dvips -t letter nsd_template.dvi (creates .ps file and makes sure that you have letter sized paper - you might have do to "-o nsd_template.ps" so the output does not go to the printer)
  5. ps2pdf nsd_template.ps (creates .pdf file)

REMEMBER SPACINGS MAY NEED TO BE CUSTOMIZED DEPENDING ON COMPUTER.

Your output dvi and pdf files should look like this (or close to it):

The MSWORD template has been designed to match the appearance of the LaTeX output shown above. We have found out that the template is machine dependent. DO NOT CHANGE FONTS AND SIZES. You might have to make small position adjustments to match to the PDF file given above.

ONLY SEND THE PDF FILE. CHECK THE PDF FILE TO MAKE SURE THAT IT MATCHES THE TEMPLATES AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE BOTH WHEN USING A VIEWER AND WHEN PRINTED.

Again, only send one contribution per e-mail and include title, authors, and affiliations in the text of the message. This helps reduce the possibility of lost contributions.

Finally, please do not wait until the final deadline (Monday, July 31, 2006) to submit your contributions.

Thanks for your help and consideration in making the 2005 Annual Report.
