Who needs to know about these requirements?
The requirements of the Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Program apply to
- Managers, supervisors, and professionals in charge of managing Berkeley Lab's traffic circulation system
- Berkeley Lab employees, visitors, affiliates, and subcontractors
Whenever they are
- Traveling on Berkeley Lab roads or walkways, or traveling off-site on Berkeley Lab business
Why?
Slips or trips may result in falls, which could cause injury.
Motor vehicle and bicycle accidents cause injury and/or property damage.
What you need to do before traveling by motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot:
- If driving, possess a valid license to operate that vehicle.
- Obey all applicable traffic laws (California Vehicle Code).
- Use public transportation whenever possible.
- Report any vehicle accident on site, or off site (when conducting Lab business)
- Wear a helmet if riding a bicycle.
- Do not use/ride nonconventional vehicles (e.g., skateboards, roller skates, Segways)
- When receiving deliveries transported on large vehicles consider utilizing the vehicle escort process.
