Thomas Earnest came to Berkeley Lab in 1990 after receiving his Ph.D. in physics from Boston University and completing an NIH postdoctoral fellowship at the UCSF School of Medicine. Within four years, he was placed in charge of constructing the Macromole-cular Crystallography Facility (MCF) for the Lab's Advanced Light Source, a task he completed this past year. Now, in addition to overseeing activity at the MCF, Earnest also heads a research group investigating the structure and function of certain membrane proteins that receive chemical signals from other cells, and could serve as models for new therapeutic drugs. |
