At the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory we have articulated this sentiment in the first commitment of Vision 2000, our strategic plan for the future, where we pledge to distinguish ourselves as a premier multi-program national laboratory, performing research of the highest scientific quality. The highlights described in the following pages illustrate our dedication not only to the advancement of knowledge, but to solving broad technological challenges and contributing to our nation's economic competitiveness. For more than six decades LBL has remained at the forefront of scientific research by combining technical expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and university and industrial partnerships. The research and commitment to excellence that have been the hallmark of our past will continue as our beacon to the future.
