The Time Projection Chamber can be thought of as the eyes of the STAR experiment. STAR stands for the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC. Within STAR, scientists plan to recreate the extreme conditions and temperatures that existed at an instant after the Big Bang. Ordinary matter is to be shattered into a primeval particle storm.
