Minutes of the Physics Division ES&H Committee

Attendees:  K. Hardy, J. Kadyk, N. Palaio, F. Rosado, T. Spadafora, C. Thompson, M. White

 

Linear Collider (TPC) -

• Lab is located in 50A-2155 (Marco Battaglia)
• Ventilation in Room 2155 is suitable for work being done
• All authorizations to be given soon
• Safety committee should look at the lab in 2155 when it is ready

Student Orientation -

• Sept. 21 @ 4PM - Perseverance Hall
• Expecting about 98 participants
• Everyone in Safety Committee should try to attend
• Ron Madaras will talk about safety
• Can this be posted in "Today @ Berkeley Lab"?
• This meeting will be a "trial run" to see what kind of turnout we get

 

GERT Training -

• Messages are being sent out to those whose GERT Certification has expired
• Training can be done online

 

Injuries -

• We need to determine which injuries are recordable or something that we can treat ourselves
• Suggestion:  Web reporting of smaller injuries and accidents
• Medical Dept. may not like this
• Medical Dept. encourages everyone to go to medical for all injuries

 

First Aid Kits -

• Remove kits that aren't being used
• Remember that these kits are for SERIOUS emergencies, not cuts and scrapes

 

Self-Assessment -

• DOE liaison would like to sit in on our safety meetings
• Open for discussion
• Confidentiality agreement???
