Project Reviews

  • SNAP CCD Testing (handout)
    • Cold probe in Rm 6007
    • Includes some compressed gases, some radiation hazards
    • Some handling of liquid nitrogen
    • Safety contact person - Armin Karcher
    • More info to come - Approval Pending
  • THETA 13 Project (Kadel - handout)
    • LDRD work
    • Biggest hazard is ergonomics
    • Currently in Bldg 25; Soon to be moved to Bldg 50
    • SOME flammable chemicals (1-2-4 Trimethybenzene)
    • C12H26 (mineral oil)
    • Chemicals stored in flam cab
    • See Rich Kadel for MSDS
    • Chemical hood needed (2 sq feet)
    • Investigate renting or purchasing chemical hood for PH (Bldg 50)
    • Revisit in the future - Approved for now

 

SRC Report

  • Engineering is eliminating its safety committee - Managers to do safety monitoring
  • Notify division safety person about SAA's and such
  • Laser Safety Committee - Documentation a big issue
  • "Safety at Home" handout to be distributed
  • ISM Board Meeting

 

Mesh Review

  • Ergo and LCATS data entry
    • Two items PH was penalized for

 

Students at Lab

  • Campus ID will give them acces to Lab
  • Should they be required to have Lab ID???
  • Many reasons why people working here temporarily should have badges
  • HR Procedure - Guest vs. Casual Visitor
    • Guest = Working at Lab
    • Casual Visitor = Meeting less than 5 days
  • Proposal:  "Beginning of Semester" Meeting for students
    • Still working on format
    • Computer security & info on safety and ergonomics
    • May need to hold this meeting more than once
    • Include recent accidents and lessons learned
    • Encourage EVERYONE to attend - Including Safety Committee and LBNL Employees
    • Hold this meeting around Sept./Mid-Sept.
