August 31, 2012
FROM: Horst Simon, Deputy Director
I am pleased to announce two funding opportunities for commercialization of LBNL technologies:
Both programs aim to advance the commercialization of Lab inventions and software, but the source of funding, application forms, schedules, rules, etc. are different. Follow the instructions in the respective links carefully.
More About Berkeley Lab Innovation Grants
The Berkeley Lab Innovation Grants support promising inventions by evaluating their commercial viability, identifying key development milestones, and then providing funding and resources to achieve the most critical of these milestones. The goal is to substantively improve the likelihood of commercializing technologies with significant market potential.
TTIPM staff will work with each applicant to take an objective look at the technology’s chances of being licensed and how the proposed Innovation Grant work increases those chances.
Proposals must focus on developing reported Berkeley Lab inventions or software and be
submitted by a Berkeley Lab career, faculty, or career track scientist or engineer. All projects must have clearly stated expected outcomes that address a barrier to commercialization, such as building a prototype, proving efficiency at a certain level, demonstrating operating performance, integrating with another technology, etc.
Deadline for proposal submission for Berkeley Lab Innovation Grants is Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Awards will be announced by December 19, 2012, and projects can begin in January 2013.
Application forms can be found here.
