·Conducted detailed theoretical and experimental investigation of fracture and fatigue mechanisms of bulk metallic glasses. Communicated results to industrial partners and at international conferences. 

· Organized a focused symposium on the reliability of ceramics and glasses at a major international conference.  

· Developed techniques to measure fracture toughness and cyclic fatigue properties of pyrolitic carbon heart valves for several major biomedical device companies.  

· Refined life-prediction protocols for the safe use of replacement heart valves.
