Quark Matter 2004 - Third Announcement

Following suggestions from the International Advisory Committee, we have postponed the deadline for abstract submission and early registration by two weeks to October 15, 2003. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you about a few other deadlines and to provide you with an update about the conference.

Abstract Submission & Early Registration

The deadline for abstract submission and early registration is now October 15, 2003. The local organizing committee will work with the International Advisory Committee to select submissions for oral presentations in the parallel sessions. Those not selected will be eligible for poster presentation. This new deadline is firm, so please make your abstract submission before October 15.

Visa

We sent out a reminder about visa issues at the end of August. We want to remind those who need visas to attend the conference to apply NOW if you have not done so. Due to increased security measures, it could take up to three months to get a US visa for some nationals. Please check the National Academy of Sciences web site for details and write to us if you need an invitation letter for visa application.

Student and Young Scientist Support

Limited support for local expenses will be available to students and scientists who are in the early stages of their career. To apply, please send a brief statement of research and a letter of reference to:supportqm04@www-rnc.lbl.gov. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2003. Funding is limited, so please apply early.

Excursion

The Conference excursion will take place on Wednesday afternoon, January 14. We offer four different choices:

  1. An Afternoon in the Wine Country
  2. Muir Woods and Sausalito Tour
  3. Stinson Beach and Point Reyes Lighthouse
  4. Ano Nuevo Reserve - Home of the Elephant Seals.

Please go to the conference web site for details regarding the tours, registration and payment.

Companion Program

We have also put together a companion program throughout the conference. Details of the program will be available on the web site by October 1st. Those interested can sign up during the registration at the conference before Monday, January 12 at noon. If you need more information, or want to register early, please contact Anna Smith at AMSmith@lbl.gov.

Deadline for Hotel Reservation

The deadline for the conference hotel at the reduced rate is December 26, 2003. Please reserve early. You can find online reservations at the conference web site.
