Painted in 1965 by Laboratory retiree Hal Dougherty, this portrait of Berkeley Lab founder Ernest Orlando Lawrence is on display on extended loan in the Bldg. 50 lobby historic exhibit. Dougherty was recognized at Open House for the work, which he said he developed from photos and memories as a tribute to "one of the great men of science, and one of my heroes." Dougherty was a mechanical and design engineer here from 1956 to 1985; his son Jim is currently an engineering technologist at Berkeley Lab. XBD9710-04012 Photo by Roy Kaltschmidt
