Who needs to know about these requirements?
The requirements of the Elevated Work Program apply to:
- Berkeley Lab employees, affiliates, and subcontractors
Whenever they are:
- Working on any aerial work platform used to raise or lower workers to perform tasks at elevated heights, as well as work requiring the use of ladders and supported, suspension, or rolling scaffolds
Why?
Unsafe elevated work may result in:
- Injuries or fatalities caused by falls
- Violation of federal and state regulations
What you need to do before performing work:
- Define work/protocols.
- Determine the best method/equipment for performing elevated work.
- Analyze hazards and develop controls.
- Complete a Fall Protection Matrix as required (See Work Process D, Fall Protection).
- Every worker must meet the minimum training requirements for their assigned task before performing the work.
- Every worker must be informed of the hazards associated with their work.
- Training: EHS278 Ladder Safety Training; EHS279 Scaffold Users Hazard Awareness; and EHS222 Aerial Work Platform Practical and/or EHS223, Aerial Work Platform. EHS 222/223 requires a prerequisite training of EHS276 Fall Protection.
- Perform the work:
- Only for which you are qualified and authorized
- Within the parameters of the Fall Protection Matrix (if required) (See Work Process D, Fall Protection)
