Hiring a Rehired Retiree

A rehired retiree is an employee who has retired from the Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, or a University of California campus. Incumbents in rehired retiree appointments work a variable schedule, but not more than 43% time, and not to exceed 900 hours in a rolling 12-month period or two years. There must be at least a 30-day break in service and the retiree must have received his/her first retirement benefit.

Approval by the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Deputy Lab Director is required. The appointment cannot be more than 12 months at a time and the supervisor must provide a justification.
