Frequently Ask Questions (FAQs)
What is A-123?
Berkeley Lab is required to comply with The Office of Management and Budget's - OMB Circular A-123. This is a component of the Federal Managers Financial Integrity Act (FMFIA). This Circular defines management's responsibility for ensuring adequate internal controls reside within the financial processes and reporting structure throughout the Laboratory.
How does it help the Lab?
This annual risk-based review helps the Lab to gain some assurance on how the internal control structure is performing. This is accomplished through control assessments and testing. It helps identify areas of opportunity for strengthening the financial control structure and minimizes the risk to adverse events that are inherent to the financial operations of the Lab.
How am I involved?
Everyone at the Lab has some responsibility in the control structure through the tasks that they perform in their jobs. Certain tasks that are performed on a daily basis may very well play an important role in the Laboratory control structure. Your manager will be notified in advance if your process area is ever selected for our annual internal review.
