~ Jeffrey's Corner ~
There have been some very exciting changes to the OCFO recently. After two national searches, Rick Inada was named Head of the Office of Sponsored Projects and Industry Partnerships (OSPIP), and Becky Cornett has joined us as the new Procurement and Property Head.
I’m also proud to announce a new feature in CFOr Yourself, “In the Spirit of Giving” that showcases the generosity of OCFO employees. As you will read, this generosity goes beyond the holiday season and is something our new “Fun/Charity” Committee is spearheading throughout the year. I am very proud of the OCFO’s commitment to helping people everywhere who are in need.
~ OCFO Welcomes New Procurement & Property Manager ~
As you may know, Derrol Hammer is planning to retire in June. In order to have a seamless transition, I initiated the recruitment for his replacement in November. A robust search team made up of OCFO Department Heads as well as key divisional leaders was formed. We have concluded this search. I am pleased to announce that Becky Cornett was selected to assume the position of Head of Procurement and Property. She joined the Lab on Jan. 23
Becky comes to LBNL from a long and illustrious career at Hewlett Packard where, for twenty years, she held varying positions of responsibility ranging from Senior Manager of Procurement and Property, to her last assignment as Vice President, Procurement Solutions, Risk Mitigation and Shares Services. Becky also held the post of Senior Director of Global Procurement and Property Management, so she is well-versed and experienced in all aspects of procurement, strategic sourcing, procure-to-pay, and property. I feel very fortunate to have Becky join our team and am anxious to have her expertise to guide us into a new era of enhanced customer service and innovative new initiatives.
As we welcome Becky, I also want to thank Derrol Hammer for his dedicated and professional leadership of the Procurement and Property Department during his last six years of service to DOE/UC. I feel very lucky that Derrol chose to end his career helping me rebuild the OCFO at a time when I needed his excellent and crucial expertise. Join me in thanking Derrol and wishing him a fantastic retirement. Derrol will be helping Becky transition into her new position over the next several months and will be moving his office up to the mezzanine where he will be working on various special projects as well.
Join me in welcoming Becky and congratulating Derrol.
~ In the Spirit of Giving ~
From the East Bay to Africa, the spirit of giving hasn't’t stopped for employees of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO). In December, employees participated in the East Bay’s Brighter Beginnings Adopt-a-Family program, donating more than 80 gifts to six needy families. At the same time, plans were made for Africa Faith-Mission (AFM), a charity that provides support to an AIDS orphanage and small hospital in Kenya, Africa. In January, Dianne Yoder, a division employee and member of AFM, took vacation to help out at the hospital/orphanage carrying six suitcases filled with clothing and supplies donated by employees. The OCFO Fun/Charity Committee is busy making plans for the next philanthropic/fun event!

~ F$M Update ~
We have completed Phase I of the Financial Systems Modernization (F$M) Project and have been given a conditional go-ahead from the Lab Director to move forward on the RFP process for the re-implementation of PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Management version 9.1. The conditional go-ahead will include three gate reviews: 1) review of the RFP documents before the solicitation is issued, 2) review of the selection analyses, and 3) approval to execute a final negotiated contract. The F$M project leadership for Phase II will be unchanged from Phase I, with Kim Williams as the project lead and Minh Huebner as the project manager. Activities that need to be accomplished before the conclusion of the RFP process include: standing up a governance structure and a project team for the implementation project, developing a new Chart of Accounts and a new project tree (aka work break down) structure, and drafting control matrices for all workflow approvals in the "to-be" business processes. We look forward to building on the momentum of the collaborative effort with our Lab stakeholders gained from Phase I to pass successfully through the gate reviews and achieving the final go decision from Lab executive management.
OCFO Emeryville Office: "Where Are You?!"
Many people need to come down the hill to our Emeryville office for meetings, so we added some great info pages to our web site to help our visitors find exactly where we are and how to get here:
Welcome New Employees!
Did you know the Lab has an Ergonomics Product Catalog? The EPC has been updated and expanded to better meet your ergonomic needs, featuring services that are often recommended as a result of an ergonomic evaluation such as; ordering computer glasses, work order facilities requests, posture/habit recommendations, or to visit the Ergonomics Display Room in B75.
