IMAGING PROTEIN WITH THE CONFOCAL MICROSCOPE

The confocal microscope searches for Protein 4.1 (green) in the nucleus of
human fibroblast cells. Nuclear proteins are tagged in red. Yellow appears
where red and green proteins overlap.

Pores embedded in nuclear membranes or an underlying lamin protein shell
appear as a ring surrounding Protein 4.1.

Protein 4.1 is revealed in the interior of a nucleus stained
with another nuclear matrix protein.

Large storage sites for RNA splicing proteins in the nucleus
dwarf neighboring Protein 4.1.

Protein 4.1. is visible near DNA replication centers scattered
throughout the nucleus.
