Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector is essential to meeting the carbon cap in California and the Kyoto Protocol targets. Gov. Schwarzenegger’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and the European Commission’s new proposed standard for lower carbon transport fuels are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector at the lowest cost and fastest pace by harnessing market competition and preserving consumer choice. This symposium will provide the scientific, policymaking and commercial communities with an opportunity to review and comment upon draft protocols for implementing the LCFS, a survey of international policies designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, and a discussion about technologies and competitive strategies in the low carbon fuels marketplace.
